FC Augsburg have signed centre-forward Thomas Kastnaras from the VfB Stuttgart reserves. The 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a contract valid until 30th June 2027, with an option to extend.

Kastanaras finished the 2021/22 season as the top goalscorer in the U19 Bundesliga Süd/Südwest, netting 26 goals in 20 games. He made his Bundesliga debut for VfB Stuttgart in September 2022 against Eintracht Frankfurt, going on to feature in a total of four top-flight games for the club. Kastanaras was then loaned to SSV Ulm 1846 ahead of the 2023/24 season, scoring three goals and providing one assist in 16 third-division matches as the Sparrows won promotion to the 2. Bundesliga.

The 1.86-metre-tall striker netted seven goals and provided three assists in 33 third-division games for the VfB reserves last season. Kastanaras is yet to make an appearance in 2025/26 due to a knee injury. The 23-year-old was born in Stuttgart but is of Greek descent, having represented Greece at U17 and U19 level, before switching allegiances and making two appearances for the Germany U20s.

“We really wanted to sign Thomas. He has a lot of potential that he hasn’t been able to fully show yet. We want to provide him with the opportunity to get back to full fitness by playing for our U23s first, and have full confidence that he will be able to take the next step in his career,” said FCA sporting director Benni Weber.

“I’m looking forward to a new chapter here in Augsburg,” said Kastanaras. “The club’s management team laid out a clear plan for me. I want to get back to full fitness and find my rhythm again, in order to continue my development.”
