At the third attempt, FC Augsburg have won at home for the first time this season with a 4-1 victory over SC Freiburg. Here are thoughts of FCA coach Manuel Baum, Freiburg coach Christian Streich and the players following the match. Manuel Baum: “I think our first half performance was the best half of football I have seen us play this season. I was pleased at how we played with and without the ball and we deserved to take the lead. It was had suffered from bad luck in the second half, we would have conceded a second goal and lost the lead. We were able to adjust our style of play and were rewarded by going 3-1 up. I’m pleased we were rewarded for our hard work and, most importantly, that we have finally given the fans something to cheer about with a first home win of the season.” SC Freiburg coach Christian Streich: “Congratulations to Augsburg. There is no doubt they deserved to win this match. We were the weaker side in the first half and Augsburg were very good. We came back into the match in the second half but were unable to take the chances we created to equalise at 2-2. The game was over once Augsburg went 3-1 up. Finnbogason is a smart footballer who shows good movement. I hope that he won’t score three goals every time they play us, but it will be difficult for us to win next time.” Alfred Finnbogason, who made his first appearance of the season and scored a hat-trick: “I was just glad to be back out on the pitch, everything else was a bonus. We completely dominated the first half but we made it difficult for ourselves in the second half. We fully deserved to win the game. There is no doubt that Freiburg are my favourite opponents. I am extremely pleased to have scored three goals, you cannot wish for anything better than that.” Philipp Max: “After the draw in Munich, which was an exhausting encounter, we played very well in the first half. However, we conceded early in the second half and we showed a lot of courage to respond. We fully deserved to take all three points today. Alfred was brilliant. It is simply amazing that he is always in a dangerous place. We are pleased to have him back.” Rani Khedira: “After the unfortunate result last weekend against Bremen, we absolutely wanted to earn our first home win of the season today and end our busy week with a victory. I think that you saw that from the first second of today’s match. It is also remarkable how Alfred has returned and score three goals on his comeback.” Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: “Our performance in the first half was superb. We should have been further ahead than just 2-0. We conceded a strange goal early in the second half and then went through a difficult phase in the match. We came through this as a team and were decisive in closing out a fully deserved win. We will travel to Dortmund with more confidence now and want to take something from that match.”
