Schmidt: “We want to go out there and play our own game.”

FC Augsburg will be looking to continue their good home form when they play Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday. “We’ve been solid off the ball in recent games and we have to continue that this weekend,” said coach Martin Schmidt before the home game against Gladbach.

It didn’t quite work for the team against Leverkusen where they lost 2-0. Martin Schmidt explained: “We tried out a lot of things and we had a few chances to score. We just lacked that final ball.” Augsburg will want to do much better this time out against Gladbach, after putting the 5-1 defeat earlier in the season out of their minds. “We’ve had a look at all the last four or five fixtures against Gladbach, said Schmidt. “ A lot has changed over the years.”

There will be some changes to the starting lineup as well – captain Daniel Baier won’t feature due to suspension. Andre Hahn will also miss out due to illness. There is good news surrounding Julian Schieber and Jan Moravek however, who have both returned to training recently. An appearance against Gladbach is unfortunately as yet out of the question. There are a few possible replacements for Baier including Eduard Löwen and Carlos Gruezo. Head coach Schmidt is sure that they will find “a decent solution”, though.

Four wins their last six home games is a good basis

Schmidt and his side will gain confidence from their recent home games: We’ve only lost once in our last six home games, we have to build on that record.” Schmidt has given his team their marching orders for their game against Marco Rose’s side. “We want to go out there and play our own game.”
