Although FCA led for a long time at FC Köln, they had to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw. “A lot happened today, and there were many stories on the pitch,” Martin Schmidt said after a hotly-contested affair. The full post-match reactions are below.

Philipp Max: “It was a hectic game. Köln made things difficult for us early on, but we outperformed them in the first half. The opening goal gave us some security, but after the two red cards the game was open again. In the second half we have to hold our hands up and say we failed to score the second goal. The last-minute equaliser is hard to take, but we are not in a position where we should be annoyed with a point against Köln.”

Florian Niederlechner:  “Overall, we had more chances to score, especially with the penalty miss and the chances after we took the lead. But to be honest, Küln were better in the second half. Nevertheless, I’m annoyed by the last-minute equaliser. Coming up next is the game against Mainz 05, in which we definitely want to get the win. I can see that we are on the right track.”

Martin Schmidt: “A lot happened today and there are many stories on the pitch. After the red cards it was an incredibly intense game. We knew it would be a hard task. Köln dominated at the beginning, but we managed to take the lead. Köln had nothing to lose after the break, but we did. They had some great chances in the closing stages, but it is still hard to take when the equaliser happens in the 86th minute. But really at the end of the day the result is probably fair. It was an important point and it means we keep Köln at a distance in the table. Now comes the next big game against Mainz.”

Markus Gisdol: “Due to the late equaliser, this feels like a win. We wanted to give everything and play with passion. We got off to a good start and put pressure on Augsburg. After the penalty we couldn’t keep our discipline and the goal before the break was annoying. The boys then managed to turn the tables. We played a good performance in the second half, and it’s too bad that the equaliser came so late on. The team have shown that with everything they have, they want to win the public on their side. It was a small step towards that, which is good.”
