Schlotterbeck: “We fought to the end”
The reaction to the defeat against Dortmund
Despite a gritty performance, FC Augsburg fell to a 1-0 defeat against Borussia Dortmund at the WWK ARENA. Here’s all the reaction to the match.
Finn Dahmen: “It’s a frustrating loss because we actually played well. Dortmund basically only had one chance that unfortunately led to a goal. We were defensively solid today – that’s the most important thing. The team deserves praise for a display like that against Dortmund after the week we’ve had – we deserved a point. If we continue to work hard, then we’ll turn things around – I’m sure of it.”
Elvis Rexhbecaj: “We brought our A game today which is why this loss is a tough pill to swallow. The game was decided by a stroke of bad luck, and Dortmund converted the chance clinically. We were actually playing well on and off the ball – we’ve just got to have more impetus going forward. In any event, the support from the fans was exceptional for the whole game – the only thing missing today was the goal.”
Keven Schlotterbeck: “I want to give the team some credit: we gave it our all and fought to the end. Of course, we’re still disappointed with the result, especially because of the unfortunate deflection in the build-up to the goal – it was a really horrible one to concede. We were moving the ball around well for phases of the game, but unfortunately that didn’t lead to enough clear-cut chances. It’s tough to score against Dortmund since they’re defensively very solid. The whole stadium could see that we put in a good, combative performance. We’ll continue to stick together as a team and go down this path together.”
Sandro Wagner (FC Augsburg head coach): “First of all, congratulations to BVB. We had high hopes going into the game and are obviously disappointed. That being said, the way we played was good – we adjusted a few things, threw everything at the opposition and barely gave them a sniff. At the end of the day, we were maybe just missing that little bit of luck we needed to get an equaliser.”
Niko Kovač (Borussia Dortmund head coach): “Today, we saw exactly what I expected: a hard-fought game from both sides. Performance-wise, we didn’t quite manage to play as I wanted today. But that is simply because FCA made our lives difficult. Overall, we simply had the rub of the green – as the goal proves. Even though it’s not pretty, you’ve just got to find a way to win close games like this, and we managed to do exactly that.”
