Richter: "We're happy to get going again"

First Team 13.05.2020, 13:35

After ten weeks away from football, FCA front man Marco Richter and his teammates will get the league back underway on Saturday 16th May with a game against VfL Wolfsburg (15:30 CEST). In an interview, he explains how the team will go about the remaining nine games.

Marco Richter can hardly wait for the Bundesliga to get back underway after the break due to Coronavirus. "Luckily, we're finally getting going again," said the 22-year-old. "We played 11 vs 11 in our last training for the first time in two months." In the time spent without football, it was "all about the Playstation among other things" for Marco Richter.

Before the resumption of the Bundesliga season, Richter and the boys will be preparing themselves with a sort of training camp. "We're now beginning a week-long training camp, which feels a little weird," said the forward man. "Despite that, we all want it to get going again. There's nothing more to say, we just have to get on with it and deal with the situation."

Richter: "We want to secure survival in this league as soon as possible."

First up for FCA is VfL Wolfsburg at the WWK Arena. "We know what's coming for us, they're a good team going forward," said Richter on the Wolves. "I think Heiko Herrlich will set us up well though." The new FCA head coach, who replaced Martin Schmidt in March, will take to the sidelines for the first time at the weekend, and he won't have to appeal to his players too much - they're ready. "We'll go into it with the proper motivation, and we'll bring it ourselves because we're all just happy to be back playing football again," said Richter.

A double game week lies ahead for FCA and the other Bundesliga clubs. "It will be a strange but special situation," said Richter. "Every player will be out to prove himself in the coming weeks, because everything comes into question when you haven't played for a while. But we're a great team, everyone plays for each other. We want to ensure our survival in this league as soon as possible, that's the most important thing for us."
