Rexhbecaj: "It doesn’t get much better than this”
Post-match reaction following victory in Wolfsburg
FC Augsburg made it four wins from their last five matches with a dramatic 3-2 triumph in Wolfsburg on matchday 23. Read on for all the post-match reaction from both camps.
Michael Gregoritsch: “It feels incredible, we fully deserved to win. We’re a tight-knit team and are only continuing to grow closer. Today, we had 11 players start and five come off the bench, and together, we determined the course of the game. I always practice penalties in training, which is why I felt relatively calm and able to focus fully on the task at hand. We’ve been able to consistently add to our points tally and open up a bit of a gap over the last weeks, but we still have several tough games ahead of us and want to pick up as many points as possible.”
Elvis Rexhbecaj: “It doesn’t get much better than this! I’m back in my old stomping grounds, my family is here – to then score the winning goal in stoppage time is simply amazing! The win today was very important. We kept our foot on the gas right from the start and didn’t let the setbacks get to us. We know what we’re capable of, and that’s what we want to do week in and out, in order to pick up points.”
Manuel Baum (FC Augsburg head coach): “That was an incredibly important and hard-fought win. Going behind twice is frustrating, but to come back like that is extremely impressive. Wolfsburg showed flashes of their quality at times, but the performance the lads put in – especially in the second half – was truly fantastic. It was clear to see that we only continued to get better, no matter who came off the bench, and that paid off in the end today. Not only was the result good, but above all, the performance was excellent.”
Daniel Bauer (VfL Wolfsburg head coach): “We only have ourselves to blame ultimately. Augsburg were able to find good solutions with the ball, were aggressive and alert. We weren’t able to find the right ways to finish the majority of our moves. Having the lead at half-time flattered us a bit, but it’s difficult to accept what then happened at the end. At times, we looked like a team of school kids out there, and weren’t able to control the game. Instead, we allowed Augsburg a way back into the game, which is extremely disappointing.”
