Reuter: “The team is in really good shape”

As of today, the transfer window is now shut. And a total of 8 players have left FC Augsburg. Club chairman Stefan Reuter explained the reasoning behind letting so many players go and why he doesn’t think his squad will suffer as a result. All of a sudden, there are only 25 players left. After eight players departed for pastures new, the previously large FCA squad has become somewhat smaller. Georg Teigl (Braunschweig), Tim Rieder (Breslau), Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker (Kaiserslautern), Konstantinos Stafylidis (Stoke), Moritz Leitner (Norwich) und Dong-Won Ji (Darmstadt) have all left on loan. Erik Thommy has permanently switched to VfB Stuttgart, while there is a buy-back clause in Marvin Friedrich’s new contract with Union Berlin. “We have always gone by the policy of if a player makes it known that he wants more game time, then we are happy to try to accommodate that wish and come to a logical solution,” explained Stefan Reuter, the club’s chairman. “We’re extremely happy that our players have attracted attention on the transfer market. That goes to show that they’ve been performing well here,” continued Reuter. Reuter: Losing players? “That’s why you have a squad” FCA were quiet on the transfer market when it came to bringing players in themselves. “The team is in really good shape and we hope that the team will avoid being hit by a rash of injuries,” said Reuter. Jeffrey Gouweleeuw will be out for a little while, but the chairman does not think his squad can’t deal with it. “That’s why you have a squad, so that you can compensate for one or two injuries,” he explained. “Kevin Danso played very well in the second half against Cologne.” Reuter does not see a drop off in quality from the top to the bottom of FCA’s squad.
