Pre-season gets underway with first training session under Sandro Wagner
Lots of fans in attendance
FC Augsburg have started their preparations for the 2025/26 season with new head coach Sandro Wagner. Following his first press conference on Monday morning, the 37-year-old took charge of his maiden training session in the afternoon.
The training group included several players back from a loan spell, a couple of youngsters from the academy and new signings Robin Fellhauer and Kyliane Dong, though Elias Saad was only able to train on his own. Elvis Rexhbecaj, Steve Mounié, Samuel Essende, Cédric Zesiger and Dimitris Giannoulis were all absent after recently taking part in international fixtures. They will all return next week. Chrislain Matsima has been given more time off after playing in the U21 European Championship.
Despite the changeable weather, many fans made sure to attend the first training session under Sandro Wagner in person. A brief rain shower initially provided some cooling, before the sun came out again. The focus of Wagner's debut session was on ball work and a small-sided game. After about an hour, the first session ended, and the players took some time for autographs and photos with the fans in attendance
Fans can also watch training live on Friday (11:30 CEST). The club’s first pre-season friendly is scheduled for Saturday, 12th July away against seventh-tier side TSV Gersthofen (14:00 CEST).
