Manuel Baum: We are pleased to have reached the next round

First Team 07.02.2019, 01:23
At the end of a very even contest away at second tier side Holstein Kiel, FC Augsburg secured their place in the DFB-Pokal quarter-finals. “We are very pleased to have reached the next round,” said a delighted Manuel Baum following the narrow victory. Rani Khedira: “In the DFB-Pokal, the result is the only thing that matters. It is understandable that several changes and youth players may have thrown a spanner in the works regarding our preparations for tonight. Nevertheless, we are simply glad to have reached the next round. We know that we can play much better.” Daniel Baier: “Kiel played very well and we are very pleased to have reached the next round. You saw that Sunday’s match had got to us a little bit especially the injuries to a few players. However, our dream of reaching the final in Berlin lives on. We are only two matches away from the final!” André Hahn: “We have to give a huge complement to Kiel. They played very well and we were unable to get any hold of the match. We are glad to have reached the quarter-finals, even if we didn’t fully deserved to win today. Kiel were unable to take several good chances today and we managed to take our one good chance.” Michael Gregoritsch: “We are very, very pleased to have reached the next round. Nothing really went that well for us today but that is sometimes how football plays out. Kiel played very well but we are simply glad to have qualified for the quarter-finals.” Manuel Baum: “Firstly, we have to give Kiel huge complements. They played superbly well. We saw how many huge chances Kiel created. We didn’t have any sort of grasp on the match, just using long balls to clear our lines. We also didn’t press very well. Towards the end of the second half, we came back into the match and won the match courtesy of a great run from Fredrik Jensen and a good finish from Michael Gregoritsch. We are very pleased to have reached the next round. In several Bundesliga matches this season, we haven’t been able to close out matches and secure victories. It was nice to snatch a victory for once.” Holstein Kiel coach Tim Walter: “I’m a little lost for words. We went flat out for the whole match and dominated Augsburg for the entire 90 minutes. You certainly have to score goals to win matches and we will have to work on this. This is an experience we have to take but something we could’ve done without. Nevertheless, I believe my team played incredibly well and we should’ve qualified for the next round of the competition.”
