Mönchengladbach: Post-match reaction

First Team 26.08.2017, 20:25
In the first home game of the season, FCA put in a strong performance to draw 2-2 with Borussia Mönchengladbach. FCA took the lead courtesy of Alfred Finnbogason in the first minute but Gladbach turned it around before the break so the visitors went into the half-time 2-1. Shortly before the final whistle, new addition Sergio Cordova scored a well deserved equaliser. Alfred Finnbogason: “It was a very open game that we dominated in the second half. The equaliser was very well deserved. We carried out our game plan and we caused Gladbach lots of problems in the second half. It gives us self-confidence going into the next few games.” Raphael Framberger: “The first half wasn’t great as we gave away an early lead too easily. However, after the break, we played very well. You could see exactly what we’re about.” Marcel Heller: “I’m glad that I could be part of a successful game for us after I came on. At the end of the day though, it doesn’t really matter who sets up the goals or who scores them as long as someone does. We actually had a chance at the end to make it 3-2 but we can be happy to have gained a point. The atmosphere in the WWK Arena was excellent and the fans pushed us over the line to get the equaliser at the end. They gave us energy” Daniel Baier: “After the break, we played extremely well. We played to our full potential and dominated proceedings. We know what we’re capable of and you could see that today. It was the right way to come back from the Hamburg defeat.” Sergio Cordova: “I’m so happy to score the goal to help the team to get a result. It felt incredible to be able to celebrate with our fans. It was only my first goal but I hope that they’ll be many more to come.” Manuel Baum: “We didn’t press well enough in the first half. After the break, we did that much better and was the key to our success I the second half. We defended aggressively and from the front. We got the ball forward much more effectively too and you can see that as we had 24 shots on goal in total today. I worried that the team would try to find excuses for why we don’t have any points but instead they fought hard and got a deserved draw. I’m happy for the substitutes too as they made the difference for us today. Why we didn’t get a penalty for handball in the first half, even though we have video technology, baffles me.” Dieter Hecking: “We played very well in the first half but, after half time, Augsburg were much better. I think a draw is a fair reflection of the game. We didn’t relieve ourselves of the pressure we were being put under and soon it became only a matter of time before the equaliser happened. After the goal, Augsburg almost made it 3-2 so we’re happy with a point.”
