Markus Weinzierl tests positive for Covid-19

FCA head coach isolating at home

First Team 15.02.2022, 13:55

FCA head coach Markus Weinzierl has tested positive for Covid-19 and is currently self-isolating. After returning a positive result on a rapid test on Sunday during a routine round of testing, the result was then confirmed by a PCR test.

Another member of the backroom staff has also tested positive. All other tests conducted on players, coaching staff and backroom staff came back negative.

Both have since entered self-isolation and are following the quarantine rules. Weinzierl will miss training this week, as well as the upcoming home game against SC Freiburg (Saturday, 19th February at 15:30 CET). Assistant coaches Reiner Maurer, Tobias Zellner and Jonas Scheuermann will fill in for him during this time.

"We have already clearly divided the tasks with the coaching staff, so that preparations for the game and matchday will be completed even without me. I have full confidence in my coaching staff and the team, that they will be able to successfully get through this situation," said Markus Weinzierl, who is currently experiencing mild symptoms.
