Magdeburg: Post-match reaction

First Team 13.08.2017, 21:00
FC Augsburg have been knocked out of the first round of the DFB Pokal. Head coach Manuel Baum comments on a catalogue of errors in Magdeburg, misfortune at the end of the game and overall, a deserved victory for the home side. Here is the post-match reaction from the game: Daniel Baier: "We were warned and we knew how hard the game would be. We came here with the target of progressing but we obviously fell short of that goal. Well done to Magdeburg who played really well but at the end of the day we will rue our missed chances.” Manuel Baum: “We didn’t really turn up. We struggled to win the second ball and often made bad decisions. We just didn’t take any of what we worked on in training into the game and we made a lot of mistakes. After the break we had a few chances and we were unlucky to not be given a penalty for a clear handball after Jonathan Schmid’s shot came off the bar. But I have to say overall that Magdeburg deserved to win and we have a lot to look over in the coming week”. Jens Härtel: “We challenged Augsburg for every ball and we stuck to our game plan fully. You can’t just sit back against a Bundesliga side and luck was also on our side at key moments but on the whole I think we deserved to go through.”
