Maaßen: "The reaction in the second half was positive"

Reaction to the game in Munich

Three goals scored, but also five goals conceded, FC Augsburg showed a good reaction in the 5-3 defeat in Munich, above all in the second half. Here is all the post-match reaction.

Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: “Against Bayern, you can’t defend everything, but five goals conceded is obviously too many. We started the game really well and went into the lead, but then we conceded two annoying goals from set pieces. However we didn’t give up and the second half in particular was very positive, we can build on that.”

Julian Baumgartlinger: “We were very brave and were able to reward ourselves with an early goal. After taking the lead we didn’t defend that well all in all though, and had to suffer a bit. In the second half, it then clearly went much better again. Through our changes we were able to apply more pressure and we were also more aggressive in duels.”

Rafal Gikiewicz: “The game started perfectly with the opening goal but then. All in all, the first half was not good, the second half was much better –but five goals conceded is obviously too many, even if you’re playing against a top team like Bayern Munich.”

Mergim Berisha: “Despite taking the lead, we didn’t managed to compete in duels properly in the first half. Bayern were usually a step quicker to second balls, that’s how we conceded so many goals much too quickly. The coach made four changes and we were more courageous and active in the second half. I am obviously pleased that I managed to score two goals, but I would have preferred not to have scored and for us to have won the game.”

Enrico Maaßen: “Congratulations to Bayern on a deserved win. We started the game really well and even could have scored a second having scored the opener. Within a short period we then conceded much too easy goals, especially during set piece situations we have to defend more consistently. It was positive that we showed a reaction in the second half with the quadruple change and scored three goals overall.”

Julian Nagelsmann: "I’m happy with the result, as it’s a case of job done. The reaction to their early goal was very good, but we didn’t have as much control our apply as much pressure in the second half. We looked good going forward, but not so much defensively as we shouldn’t have let in three goals. The important thing, however, is to have picked up three points following on from our Champions League game midweek.”
