Leverkusen match reaction

First Team 18.02.2017, 20:27
FC Augsburg suffered a second straight defeat in the league against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Manuel Baum's side lost 3-1 against the Werkself as they paid for not being clinical enough in front of goal. We bring you all the post-match reaction right here. Paul Verhaegh: "I actually can't point the finger at anybody. We continued to try to do everything we could after we went 2-0 down but we were simply not clinical enough. Even though we managed to pull one back, their third goal prevented our efforts from coming to fruition. We've been letting too much through at the back recently." Dominik Kohr: "We made too many silly mistakes and lost the ball too easily. Leverkusen exploited that ruthlessly. Still we tried everything after they got the second to get back in it but ultimately we only took one of the many good opportunities we had and that just wasn't enough." Raul Bobadilla: "We played well and had a lot of chances but we just couldn't take them. Leverkusen were very clinical and created a lot of opportunities. Now we need to work hard again to make sure we pick up points next week against Darmstadt." Daniel Baier: "We had a lot of clear-cut chances but we weren't good enough in front of goal. Leverkusen showed us how you do it since they didn't actually have any more chances than we did. Furthermore we made too many mistakes going forward and were lacking that cutting-edge." Georg Teigl: "The match could have and should have ended up different. Unfortunately we made mistakes for the goals we conceded and didn't take our own chances. However we don't need to shy away from anything. We were right back in it after we pulled a goal back and you could feel that but unfortunately we conceded too quickly." Manuel Baum: "This is a tough defeat to accept. We didn't take our chances and helped them with their goals by making mistakes but I thought the way the team responded after being 2-0 at half-time was impressive. We got the goal back and were then punished with their third. Overall we can build on our attacking play and we need to work on cutting out those mistakes." Roger Schmidt: "It was an intense match in which we started well and scored two wonderful goals but we also found ourselves in a few tricky situations before the break. It was clear after half-time that Augsburg would come at us again and that made us lose our stability. However getting that third goal so quickly after theirs brought back that stability."
