Lehmann: “Excited to start my job at FCA!”

First Team 29.01.2019, 20:48
Jens Lehmann has finished his first training session as assistant coach at FC Augsburg. After the session, the Augsburg staff, including Lehmann, discussed his first day in charge as well as other topics. Stefan Reuter, sporting director at Augsburg, was delighted to welcome Jens Lehmann to the coaching staff: “I’d like to welcome Jens Lehmann to the club. I am thrilled that we have secured the services of a top professional who has a winning mentality. He will bring a lot to our coaching team." They know each other from their respective playing days: “I was able to see Jens as a player and saw what he brings to a team and what kind of advice he can. It’s important we support ourselves on and off the pitch. His ideas and points of view are very interesting! Head coach Manuel Baum added: “We were lacking a bit of experience in our coaching team. There are so many different jobs for the staff, so we’re glad that Jens can bring his experience and skills to our team!” Lehmann himself is also excited about starting his job at the club: “I’m really pleased to be part of the coaching team here at FCA. My role is to support the current staff here. We all have to be ready to learn things. I was able to learn lots from Arsene Wenger of Arsenal, one of the best managers around. The main thing I learnt was to stay calm, but also how he approached matches and training sessions.” Sanctions against Caiuby and Hinteregger During the media round, Reuter also discussed the sanctions made against Caiuby and Martin Hinteregger, who have been punished for their poor behaviour. After Martin Hinteregger publicly criticised the head coach, Reuter said: “We have made it very clear that we will not accept this. It is important in a situation like ours that everybody is working together. The impression that we got from Martin suggested that he isn’t working with the rest of us. We will gladly accept criticism, but not when it is done publically. As long as he isn’t 100% part of the collective mindset, he won’t play for this team. It’s disappointing and we will not stand for this behaviour.” Stefan Reuter was also massively frustrated with Caiuby’s behaviour: “His behaviour has also massively disappointed us. In both cases, we have punished them stronger than anyone ever before at FCA.”
