Kostas Stafylidis to leave FC Augsburg and join Hoffenheim

First Team 15.05.2019, 16:20
Left-back Konstantinos Stafylidis will not extend his contract with FC Augsburg beyond the end of the season. The Greek, who joined FCA from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and has since spent time on loan with Stoke City, will leave the Fuggerstädter at the end of the season to join TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. “It’s a shame that Kostas has opted not to extend his contract in Augsburg and instead leave the club to play elsewhere. Kostas believes Hoffenheim’s offer gives him a new opportunity. We have to respect his decision,” said FCA sporting director Stefan Reuter. “We would like to say a big thank you to Kostas for his commitment to the club during his time in Augsburg and wish him all the best for the future. We want to Kostas by giving him a successful send off in our final match of the season in Wolfsburg as he begins to compete for a place in Hoffenheim’s starting lineup for next season’s European campaign.” The 25-year-old Greek defender has made 52 Bundesliga appearances for FC Augsburg, scoring five goals during his time in the Fuggerstadt. Stafylidis also made five appearances in the DFB-Pokal as well as four appearances in Augsburg's 2015/16 Europa League campaign.
