29-year-old centre-back Keven Schlotterbeck has left FC Augsburg with one year remaining on his contract to join Championship side Southampton FC. The two clubs have agreed not to disclose the terms of the transfer.

Schlotterbeck joined FCA from SC Freiburg ahead of the 2024/25 season. He went on to make 49 competitive appearances for FC Augsburg, scoring three goals and providing three assists. The defender most recently played the full 90 minutes in the DFB-Pokal victory away to Cottbus.

New challenge in England

“Keven has always been very open with us about his desire to play abroad at some point in his career. He now has the opportunity to fulfil that ambition in England and also offers him long-term prospects there. Our discussions with him were always open and conducted with great mutual respect. Keven remained fully committed to the team right up until his final day and always gave everything for FCA. We want to thank him for that. We wish him all the very best, both on and off the pitch, as he takes on this new challenge,” said FCA sporting director Benni Weber.

“Although it’s difficult to say goodbye, moving to England is a really exciting challenge for me. I’ve always said that I wanted to play abroad at some point in my career. I’m very grateful to FC Augsburg for my time here, for the open communication throughout and for all the special moments I’ve had here. I wish the club and the fans all the very best for the future,” said Keven Schlotterbeck.
