Buy option activated: FCA sign Cédric Zesiger permanently

Contract until 30th June 2029

First Team 27.05.2025, 13:00

January loan signing Cédric Zesiger is staying at Augsburg! The buy option agreed with VfL Wolfsburg has been activated ahead of the deadline, meaning the Switzerland international’s loan spell becomes permanent. The 26-year-old centre-back has signed a four-year contract until 30th June 2029.

The defender made a total of 15 appearances for FCA in the second half of the season, helping the team keep a clean sheet in each of his first eight appearances. His impressive displays for the club also earned him a spot back in the Switzerland national team this year.

Ströll: “Cédric has a very healthy winning mentality”

“I’m delighted that my journey with FCA will continue. My expectations for the move have very much been fulfilled. I really feel at home in the team and in the city, which is incredibly important for me alongside the sporting aspect. We’ve developed as a team, but we’re not finished yet, so I’m looking forward to being a part of FCA’s future and want to continue playing my part to help us achieve our goals,” said Zesinger.

“Cédric slotted straight into the team after his move and helped us a lot with his performances in the second half of the season. He has a very healthy winning mentality that the rest of the boys can feed off. He also plays an important role off the pitch as a team player. We’re very happy that Cédric will continue to wear FCA colours in the years ahead,” said Michael Ströll.
