FC Augsburg suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat to FC Bayern despite a thrilling late fightback. Here’s all the reaction from the match.

Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: “We showed a really good mentality. It’s not always the case that you fight back from 3-0 down and score two goals against Bayern. I also have to give credit to Finn, who kept us in the game for a long time with his superb saves. He showed again today why he has rightly been called up to the Germany squad. In the end, we didn’t get rewarded for the fight we showed. Now, it’s about continuing to work hard and using our time well during the international break.”

Mert Kömür: “We put in a good performance today. When you’re 3-0 down to Bayern, you firstly have to get it back to 3-2. We were obviously just missing that finishing touch at the end, and there are certain things which can always be improved on. However, we can be proud of the mentality we showed. We want to carry on in this vein after the international break.”

Anton Kade: “There was an incredible atmosphere at the stadium today, and it was an unbelievable stage for me to make my FCA debut on. We can be proud of ourselves for scoring two goals after going 3-0 down to FC Bayern. I was given a really warm welcome here straight away. We’ve got some great lads in the team who’ve made it really easy for me to get started. After my time away with the Germany U21s, I’m looking forward to facing St. Pauli!”

Finn Dahmen: “The goals we conceded came at the worst possible times, but I’m still proud of the team. Many teams would just crumble after going three goals down to FC Bayern München. We kept on playing football and were rewarded with two goals. We were just missing that final piece at the end that we needed to equalise. Despite that, we’re taking a lot of positives from this. We were very brave on the ball and did a lot of running with purpose. Obviously, there are things we can improve on, but, right now, it’s really enjoyable being with this team. We’re on a very good trajectory.”

Sandro Wagner (FC Augsburg head coach): “That was an intensive football match, in which we set ourselves a lot of particular targets in every phase of the game. We were not alert enough for the goals we conceded, but we also carried out our plan well in some areas, especially when we had the ball. Obviously, it’s a shame that we couldn’t get our reward for that performance. That’s why it’s ended in a defeat, which I’m disappointed with. In a way, though, the team can still be proud of themselves.”

Vincent Kompany (FC Bayern München head coach): “Obviously, we’re disappointed about the two goals conceded. We had a lot of chances, though, and were always a threat. We were very good in the first half, but not during the whole game. On the ball, there were long stretches where we did all the right things. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have had so many chances. We have to defend with more composure in some situations, however. There’s still work to do. It’s a question of composure, and of lowering the tempo at certain points in the game. That gives you back the momentum. We will now go and improve in the areas we need to work on.”
