Kade: “We scored at exactly the right moments”
Post-match reaction after the win in Bremen
FC Augsburg secured a 3-1 win away against Werder Bremen thanks to clinical finishing and a solid defensive display. Here is the post-match reaction.
Anton Kade: “I’m really happy to have scored my first Bundesliga brace. The three points are massive, we scored at exactly the right moments. There’s a really strong connection in the team at the minute. Things are going our way right now, but we’ll only see where we really stand at the end of the season. First of all, we’ve still got two games against opponents we absolutely cannot underestimate.”
Michael Gregoritsch: “We defended well, kept things tight and did exactly what we’d set out to do going forward. We took our chances really well and scored the third goal at a crucial moment. We’ve got two games left now and we want to give absolutely everything in both of them. Of course, we’d love to finish on 46 points, but we’re taking it one game at a time. It’s a lot of fun playing in this team, and we’ll keep pushing. Everyone in the squad knows where our strengths lie and how we can use them to best effect.”
Manuel Baum (FC Augsburg head coach): “It was a tough game. Bremen were difficult to pick up in the half-spaces for long spells, but we dealt with that better as the game went on. The positive thing was that we were extremely ruthless today and scored two really good goals before the break. We knew Bremen would come out strongly after half time. We had to withstand plenty of pressure and we also had the bit of luck we needed with the goal ruled out for offside. After conceding, we showed a very good reaction and scored the third from a corner. We then missed a few chances on the break, but we were really solid at the back late on. The team deserve huge credit for that performance. It showed the quality and depth we have in the squad.
Daniel Thioune (Werder Bremen head coach): “I can’t have too many complaints about my team’s possession in the first half, but we made too many mistakes on the ball and didn’t get in behind enough. We then conceded twice following turnovers in possession, Augsburg were very clinical. We changed things at half time and were unlucky with the goal ruled out for offside. We pulled one back during our best spell, but then immediately allowed them to restore their two-goal lead from a set piece. After that, it was a lot of trying to force our way back into it, a lot of chasing the game, and Augsburg did well to see the game out in the end. It’s frustrating for us that we couldn’t take this chance to secure safety.”
