Jakić: “We’re very disappointed"
Post-match reaction following second-round cup exit against Bochum
FC Augsburg were eliminated in the second round of the DFB-Pokal following a narrow 1-0 defeat at home against VfL Bochum. Read on for all the post-match reaction from both camps.
Kristijan Jakić: “I’m at a loss for words right now, as we’re naturally very disappointed. We really wanted to win, especially after the defeat against Leipzig, but weren’t able to tonight. We feel disappointed for the fans who supported us for the full 90 minutes. However, we don’t have long to dwell on this, with another important game coming up on Friday already. We have to pick ourselves up by then and become even closer as a team.”
Elvis Rexhbecaj: “Today was about advancing to the next round, which we didn’t manage to do. We weren’t well-positioned on their counter-attacks and need to become more clinical and take our chances. We’re disappointed to not have been able to get the momentum on our side tonight.”
Sandro Wagner (FC Augsburg head coach): “We’d set out to achieve far more tonight. We brought in fresh legs and adjusted our formation a little bit. We wanted to play with one centre-forward and outnumber them via the wings. We managed to do so a couple of times. We’re very disappointed to not have reached the next round, as that was the goal we’d set ourselves.”
Uwe Rösler (VfL Bochum head coach): “Our winning mentality and physicality are what helped us be the better team tonight. We went with a slightly unfamiliar formation in order to strengthen ourselves in the centre of the pitch, which worked well. It was impressive to see how we were able to challenge one of the Bundesliga’s best hardest pressing teams. Hats off to my team for their performance.”
