Irvin Cardona will not return to FC Augsburg for the coming season. The 27-year-old, who moved to French side AS Saint-Étienne on loan during the winter break, has now joined them on a permanent basis after Saint-Étienne activated their buy option on the attacker.

Cardona signed for FCA from Brest in January 2023. He first went on loan to Saint-Étienne for the second half of the 2023/24 season and his strong performances helped them earn promotion to Ligue 1. After his loan move to Espanyol came to an end early after just six months, he went back to Saint-Étienne last January. Despite scoring five goals and recording three assists in 15 appearances, he couldn’t prevent them from going back down.

“I’m grateful for my time at FCA. I would like to thank the fans, my teammates and the club’s officials. I wish the club all the best for the future,” said Irvin Cardona, who played 13 times in all competitions for the Fuggerstädter (1 goal, 1 assist).

FCA CEO Michael Ströll added: “This permanent move is a good solution for all parties. Irvin will get the chance to take on an important role at his new club. We would like to thank him for his efforts at FCA and wish him all the best for the future, both on and off the pitch.”
