Gumny: "Time to get back to winning ways"

Full back talks to FCA TV

First Team 14.04.2021, 16:17

After starting the last four games, Robert Gumny talks to FCA TV about the recent matches, changing flanks and the upcoming home game against DSC Arminia Bielefeld (Saturday, 15:30 CEST).

Robert Gumny has no explanation. "I don't know what's behind it either," says the full-back when asked about the lack of consistency in recent games. FCA have won three of the last six games, but each of those three victories was followed by a defeat.

After the 2-1 home win against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, Augsburg came away empty-handed from Gelsenkirchen, where they were defeated 1-0 by FC Schalke 04. "Of course, we want to pick up back-to-back wins," says Gumny, who is looking ahead to the visit of Arminia Bielefeld: "A win would be great, then we would have 35 points. That could already be enough to stay in the league." FCA are currently have a six-point lead over Saturday's visitors, who sit in the relegation zone.

Left or right? "I'm just happy to play"

Gumny has established himself at Augbsurg recently and has been given starts in each of the last four games - albeit not in his usual position at right back, but on the other side. For the right-footer, however, the change of sides is no problem. "I'm just happy to play," says the 22-year-old, "whether it's on the right side or the left."

It's likely that Gumny will start at left back again against Bielefeld. The Pole is aware of the importance of the match against the promoted side. "Bielefeld are under some pressure and they need points against us," stressed Gumny, looking at recent form. "But we're playing at home - and after the defeat at Schalke it's time to get back to winning ways."
