Gregoritsch: “We showed good spirit”
Match reaction following the 2-1 win over St. Pauli
On matchday 20 of the Bundesliga, FC Augsburg impressed at home again as they came from behind to record a 2-1 victory and earn three points against St. Pauli. Read on for all of the post-match reaction.
Marius Wolf: “That game was the battle we expected. From the start, we wanted to show that we absolutely wanted to win this match and that the victory over Bayern was no flash in the pan. The fact that we came from behind to turn a game around yet again speaks volumes about our mentality and our cohesion as a team. I don’t understand the penalty decision, though. I clearly played the ball first, before the opponent ran into me. There was contact, but even then I was trying to pull my leg away.”
Michael Gregoritsch: “That was a very intensive match with a lot of individual battles and 50/50 duels, but we showed good spirit, which meant the game was great to play in. Obviously, we had a little bit of luck, but we kept going forward with courage. Alexis brilliantly set me up twice. It’s just perfect to have those kinds of players behind you.”
Manuel Baum (FC Augsburg head coach): “Two positives from today are the result and the fact we came from behind to win. However, we’re not satisfied with the performance. Particularly in the first half, we didn’t manage to break forward in the way we wanted. We weren’t decisive enough on the ball, though St. Pauli made it extremely hard for us. During the second period, there were a few minutes when we were on it, and that’s when we scored the goal. At the end, however, we were mainly occupied with defending and focused on not conceding. We have to work on this ahead of our next game in Mainz.”
Alexander Blessin (FC St. Pauli head coach): “First of all, congratulations to FC Augsburg. We’re extremely disappointed today. I thought we could have got more out of the game. There were two aspects which resulted in us losing the match. One was our finishing when we had opportunities, and the other was that we lost our concentration a bit for the two goals we conceded. We even took the lead and were doing well, but then we defended poorly for the equaliser. Our defence was caught napping again for the second goal. We didn’t take our own chances, meaning we couldn’t turn the game back in our favour, and that’s just frustrating.”
