Gouweleeuw: "Our unbeaten streak is impressive"
Post-match reaction to 1-0 win in Dortmund
FCA captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw scored the only goal of the afternoon as his side earned their first away win in Dortmund since 2015. In doing so, the club also set a new Bundesliga record by going unbeaten in nine straight matches. Read on for all the post-match reaction.
Finn Dahmen: "The number of minutes without conceding makes for great reading and this streak can definitely continue on. But, the priority is definitely the success of the team. The way we defended today was fantastic – Dortmund barely managed to create any chances. We're very proud of the fact that we're currently unbeaten in nine games. We've worked extremely hard to achieve this. Your mentality can have a big impact in football. We're currently feeling very confident and are on a roll!"
Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: "It was about time that I scored again. I'm obviously also happy that it was the winning goal and that I was able to help the team out. To be completely honest, I wanted to head the ball into the middle, but it ended up being a really nice goal. This game proved once again what's possible when you play as a team. Our unbeaten streak is impressive but we will keep both feet planted fully on the group and keep our focus on the next game."
Elvis Rexhbecaj: "I was happy to be able to start a game for the first time in a while. It was a big win for us because it had been 10 years since our last win in Dortmund. It's not easy to come here and win. Overall, we didn't give up many chances and defended well. It's not possible to defend against everything BVB throw your way. They did leave us with a lot of space and we could have done even better at taking advantage of them, in order to put the game to bed earlier. We knew that set pieces could be a good option against an opponent like this. We did well when we weren't in possession and have enjoyed a strong second half to the season so far, especially in terms of the few big chances we have conceded. Whenever a ball did slip through, Finn was there."
Jess Thorup (FC Augsburg head coach): "Two wins within a single campaign against BVB is definitely something special for FC Augsburg. We knew that we would need a strong performance over the full 90 minutes as well as the belief that we could be successful, in addition to being clinical in front of goal. Even if Dortmund had more possession, we kept calm and defended as a unit. During the closing stages of the game we could have made more of our counter-attacks in order to put the game to bed. But, we can enjoy today before putting our focus back on Wolfsburg next week."
Niko Kovac (Borussia Dortmund head coach): "Congratulations to FC Augsburg on the win. I can sum today up in just a few words: We played poorly and didn't do what we set out to do. There was no aggression, no intensity and no drive to attack. We got what we deserved – nothing."
