After missing the start of 2019 with an adductor injury, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw returned to action in the closing moments of Saturday’s victory against Hannover 96. The 27-year-old is delighted to be back and hopes to feature for FC Augsburg after the international break against 1. FC Nürnberg. Despite his long-term absence, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw has remained optimistic during his time out with injury. He is now pleased to be back and able to help his team once more. “Of course such a setback is always difficult. We were going through a difficult phase of the season and you always want to be on the pitch helping the team. However, I have stayed positive and have managed to recover from this injury. I’m now working hard ahead of the trip to Nürnberg. The Dutch centre-back’s main priority is to help FCA secure Bundesliga safety for another season. “We have played well in recent matches and the team have showed what we can do. We are now fully focused on securing promotion for another season. There is a strong togetherness and team spirit within the squad and we have shown we can beat some of the biggest teams in the Bundesliga.” Gouweleeuw feels at home at FCA The Dutchman is feeling good both on and off the pitch in Augsburg and extended his contract back in January. The 27 year-old signed a deal to keep him in Augsburg until 2024. “Of course my role on the pitch is one of the reasons why I extended my contract here but I’m also enormously pleased with how the team have supported me. I really enjoy living here too. My family feel comfortable here and I believe I belong at FC Augsburg.” Jeffrey’s plans for the future are similar to FCA’s ambitions as a club. “I always want to improve and Augsburg want to do the same. Therefore, we fit in well together. I’m happy to be here and Augsburg are happy with me as a player.”
