Götze wins on his debut with the Germany U20s
FCA youngster Felix Götze made his debut for the Germany U20 team and completed ninety minutes as the team beat Switzerland 3-2. Other Augsburg players were in action too.
Iceland 1 – 2 Switzerland
Alfred Finnbogason and Iceland fell to a 2-1 defeat against Switzerland in their League B UEFA Nations League game. The Augsburg forward did not only complete the full ninety minutes but managed to get on the scoreboard as well. A brilliant ball from Granit Xhaka to Haris Seferovic, who then scored put the Swiss 1-0 up. Shortly after, Switzerland increased their lead after Marvin Lang was played in by Xherdan Shaqiri and scored. However, in the 81st minute, Alfred Finnbogason scored an absolute worldy; a screamer from 20 metres out. Iceland were unable to find an equaliser in the remaining minutes of the game.
Denmark 2 – 0 Austria
Austria lost 2-0 to Denmark in their international friendly. Head coach Franco Foda made five changes to his team that beat Northern Ireland in the UEFA Nations League game, with FCA player Martin Hinteregger coming into start. He was on the pitch until halftime. Although the Austrians looked good going forward, they lacked the final ball. Lukas Lerager scored the first goal for the hosts in the 29th minute before Martin Brahtwaite doubled their lead in extra time (90 + 3’).
Austria U21 3 – 2 Russia U21
This was an important victory for the Austria U21s in their bid to qualify for the UEFA U21 European Championship. Werner Gregoritsch’s team won 3-2 and are now in the play-offs for qualification. However it was not an easy game. Austria's Adrian Grbic (13’) and Hannes Wolf (48’) had twice put the hosts ahead in St. Pölten, but Fedor Tschalow (15’, 52’) scored twice to equalise for the Russians. The decisive goal was scored by Arnel Jakupovic in the 75th minute just after being brought on for FCA player Kevin Danso, who was in the starting XI. The U21 European Championship will take place next year in Italy and San Marino.
Germany U20 3 – 2 Switzerland U20
Germany U20s came out victorious in a goal fest against Switzerland. The Germans went ahead through a Robin Hack goal. Only six minutes later, Jan-Niklas Beste doubled their lead to make it 2-0 before Florent Muslija made it 3-0. A brace from Pusic for Switzerland made it 3-2 but it was not enough to earn a draw. Felix Götze played the full ninety as he made his debut.
