Martin Hinteregger fined and training alone

First Team 29.01.2019, 15:37
FC Augsburg defender Martin Hinteregger has been given a large fine and will train alone, separate from the rest of the first team squad. This comes after the Austrian publically criticised FCA head coach Manuel Baum following Augsburg’s 2-0 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday. FC Augsburg started a new week of training on Tuesday following the defeat in Mönchengladbach. The squad have begun their preparations for Sunday’s match at home against 1. FSV Mainz 05 (15:30 CET). FCA defender Martin Hinteregger didn’t join his teammates for training today after the Austrian deeply criticised head coach Manuel Baum following the match in Mönchengladbach. Hinteregger met with Augsburg sporting directors Stefan Reuter and Michael Ströll on Tuesday morning and the Austrian was informed that such criticism of the head coach wouldn’t be tolerated  and that this didn’t form the basis for trustworthy cooperation within the squad. “A fundamental part of FC Augsburg is that we can speak with each internally about issues – and we can be critical if necessary. However, we do not disclose our opinions in public,” said Stefan Reuter. “Consequently, these statements which are critical of a superior member of the club are unacceptable.”
