A highly rated box-to-box midfielder: Fellhauer in focus

A seismic rise at Elversberg

First Team 29.06.2025, 15:00

Robin Fellhauer is the new man in midfield for FC Augsburg. A move to the Bundesliga is the logical next step for the 27-year-old as he continues his impressive development as a player.

The Mannheim-born man rose to prominence in particular during his time at SV Elversberg, whom he joined from SC Freiburg II in 2019. He quickly established himself as a first-team regular under head coach Horst Steffen, and took on more and more responsibility as time went on. Fellhauer played a key part in the club’s rise from the Regionalliga to the 2. Bundesliga, where he eventually served as captain.

During the 2024/25 season, Fellhauer scored five goals and provided four assists in 25 2. Bundesliga matches. He also found the net in the DFB-Pokal and in the promotion/relegation play-offs, where Elversberg were narrowly beaten by 1. FC Heidenheim. In their ranking of the league’s best defensive midfielders, the sports magazine kicker described him as “outstanding” and listed him as the 2. Bundesliga’s number one player in his position. Fellhauer’s work rate, ball-winning ability and flexibility have been particularly impressive. He is comfortable as a defensive midfielder or slightly further forward, where he can show both his defensive acumen and his eye for goal.

Football in the family

The former Germany youth international has football in his blood. His father Andreas made two Bundesliga, 82 2. Bundesliga and 127 Regionalliga appearances for Waldhof Mannheim, VfR Mannheim and 1. FC Saarbrücken. After calling time on his playing career, he remained in the sport and is currently head coach of DJK Ensheim in the Bezirksliga Saarbrücken.

Robin’s twin sister Kim was also a professional footballer who was considered a top talent. The defender, who made 51 appearances for SC Freiburg, was forced to retire at the age of 26 due to multiple serious injuries. She is now an assistant coach at Eintracht Frankfurt women’s second team, and was alongside her brother when he put pen to paper on his contract with Augsburg.

For Robin, the move to FCA is the start of a new chapter. “My number one aim has always been to play in the Bundesliga,” he said upon signing for the club. He will wear the number 19 shirt for the Fuggerstädter, and he has also been reunited with a familiar face: he is good friends with Keven Schlotterbeck.
