FC Augsburg have signed young Austrian defender Oliver Sorg. The 17-year-old has joined FCA from Sturm Graz.

Sorg, who comes from the state of Styria, joined Sturm Graz’s U15 side in 2021. The left-back played for various Sturm youth sides and broke into their reserve team in 2024/25, who finished eighth in the second division in Austria last season. Sorg played 22 games and scored two goals for their second team. He has also featured for Sturm’s U18 team in the UEFA Youth League and was also an unused substitute in two Champions League squads.

Sorg has played 31 times for Austria’s youth sides, including four matches as part of the U17 European Championship in early 2024. Sorg, born in 2007, will now join up with two familiar faces in Mauro Hämmerle and Florian Hangl in Augsburg, two fellow Austrian youth internationals.

“In signing Oliver Sorg, we have been able to bring another young international talent to FCA who we plan to build up until he’s ready for our first team. Oliver has already been able to gain experience in men’s football and the aim is to build him up until he’s ready for the level of play in the Bundesliga, in addition to earning playing time with our U23s,” said Michael Ströll, CEO of FC Augsburg.

“I’m delighted to be joining FCA and to have the opportunity to break into the first-team squad at a German first-division side. The club’s management laid out a clear plan of what my path to the Bundesliga could look like. I will work hard every day in order to take the next steps in my development, and am looking forward to the next years,” said Sorg.
