Arne Maier featured in 29 Bundesliga games for FC Augsburg in 2021/22, and was a key part of the team. The 23-year-old also contributed a club-high seven assists, also scoring his first Bundesliga goal for the side.

FCA have signed Maier, who captained the Germany U21s to a European championship in 2021, to a long-term deal. The midfielder was previously on loan from Hertha BSC, and has now inked a three-year deal with the option to extend until 2026. Details of the contract will remain undisclosed.

“Arne Maier quickly became a key part of our team, despite missing some of pre-season due to the U21 EUROs and the Olympic Games. He has become a central figure in our midfield. We are very happy that we have been able to sign Arne to a long-term deal,” said sporting director Stefan Reuter. “His talents as a footballer will be able to benefit us for many years to come. We are also convinced that he still has room to grow as a player.”

“FCA have shown a lot of trust in me, and I have felt very at home here right from the start. I’ve said it time and time again,” Arne Maier stated. “I’m very happy to be able to wear the FCA colours for the next few years as well. I’m looking forward to the new season and want to take on even more responsibility in order to enjoy a successful campaign with FCA.”
