FC Augsburg have secured the services of Pep Biel on the final day of the winter transfer window. The 27-year-old has arrived from Greek side Olympiakos on a loan deal until the end of the season, which includes an option to buy. Both clubs have opted not to disclose the terms of the deal.

Pep Biel will reunite with Jess Thorup in Augsburg, as he had previously played under the Dane when he was at FC Copenhagen in the 2021/22 season. The Spaniard was named Player of the Season that year, as he scored eight goals and registered eight assists to help FCK win the Danish Superliga title.

Biel has 20 appearances under his belt for Olympiakos so far this campaign, which includes four Europa League qualifiers and three Europa League matches. He’s bagged two goals and assisted four more in those matches. The attacker had an impressive first year in Greece, with eight goals and two assists to his name.

“Pep Biel will strengthen our attack”

“I’m really happy that the move has worked out. We had some very positive talks. FCA are an ambitious club and it feels like a family here. I want to build on the success I had in Copenhagen in Augsburg. Obviously, it helps that, in Jess, I’m going to be working with a coach who knows exactly how to make the most of my strengths,” said FCA’s new number 11.

“We wanted to optimise the squad by improving our attack and bringing in different types of players. We’re convinced that Pep Biel is the right man for FCA. Pep Biel will strengthen our attack with his technical ability and his quality in the final third,” said Augsburg sporting director Marinko Jurendic on the club’s second winter signing.
