FC Augsburg to face SC Verl in DFB-Pokal

First Team 16.06.2019, 00:28
The first round matches of the DFB-Pokal were drawn on Saturday night at the German football museum in Dortmund. FC Augsburg will face fourth division side SC Verl. The first round matches will take place between Friday 9th August to Monday 12th August. DFB vice-president Peter Frymuth oversaw the first round draw. Former Germany international Nia Künzer was responsible for drawing the matchups, and selected Regionalliga side SC Verl from North Rhein-Westphalia to face FC Augsburg. The roles should be clearly defined: Augsburg go into the match as the favourites and want to move past the Regionalliga side into the next round. Head coach Martin Schmidt is pleased with the draw: “We faced Verl when I was the coach of Mainz’s reserve team and I remember them as being a very sympathetic club with a good pitch. The draw is a nice challenge for us, and one that we will happily take on in our first match of the season!" The first round pairings SSV Ulm – 1. FC Heidenheim 1.
