FC Augsburg let Paul Verhaegh move on

First Team 06.08.2017, 17:10
FC Augsburg and club captain Paul Verhaegh have come to an agreement regarding the termination of his contract which was due to run out in June 2018. The 33-year-old Dutchman has decided to cut short his contract as he seeks a new challenge at VfL Wolfsburg. The deal is subject to a pending medical. “After seven great years, it feels strange to think that I won’t be wearing the FCA shirt again”, said Paul Verhaegh about his transfer.  “However, I’m doing this for a reason. I want to do something new before the end of my career.” “It’s a difficult decision for us to take and it’s not easy to lose your captain just before the season gets underway. Paul’s been a big part of FC Augsburg’s development in the last seven years as he’s always given everything for the team on and off the pitch,” said Stefan Reuter, general manager at FCA. “We have found a solution which everyone is happy with. We’re grateful for everything Paul has done for the club and wish him well – aside from all the encounters against us of course.” Official departure at FCA family fun day Paul Verhaegh will come to Augsburg for the last time on Sunday as he will be present at the FCA family fun day in the WWK Arena. Before FCA’s final pre-season fixture against PSV Eindhoven kicks off, the longstanding captain will be given an official send-off. In the summer of 2010, Paul Verhaegh joined FCA from Vitesse Arnheim and, in his first season, FCA gained promoted to the Bundesliga. In total, the right-back, who wore the captain’s armband for six years, featured for FC Augsburg in 224 games and scored 22 goals.
