Flying start: FCA ease to 9-0 win in first friendly

FC Augsburg kicked off their pre-season friendlies in style with a convincing 9-0 victory over Bezirksliga side TSV Gersthofen. The match also marked the debut of new head coach Sandro Wagner.
Following a demanding first week of training, new signings Robin Fellhauer and Kyliane Dong were named in the starting XI, while Elias Saad was ruled out of a potential debut due to illness. Daniel Klein started in goal.
FCA made the perfect start, taking the lead inside three minutes: Mert Kömür whipped in a pinpoint cross for Phillip Tietz to finish from close range. Augsburg kept up the pressure with an aggressive high press, and by the sixth minute, Henri Koudossou had doubled the lead with a delightful chip over the keeper.
Gersthofen defended bravely and were able to rely on their excellent goalkeeper, who denied Fellhauer (20') and Koudossou (34') from adding to the scoreline. Just before half time, new arrival Dong marked his debut with a composed finish to make it 3-0. Wearing the eye-catching new away shirt, Wagner’s team impressed with attacking flair and slick build-up play.
Young talents on target
The boss made almost his full line-up at the break, with only goalkeeper Daniel Klein remaining on the pitch. The second half gave several youth players a chance to impress – and they certainly took it. Within minutes, Franz Xaver Bleicher (49'), Aiman Dardari (53'), Tim Schnitzer (55') and Mauro Hämmerle (60') had stretched the scoreline to 7-0, some of the goals coming in spectacular fashion.
Returnee Dion Bejo added the eighth in the 75th minute, before Schnitzer completed the scoring with his second of the day in the 86th minute.
After the final whistle, scores of young fans gathered at the pitchside for autographs and photos with the players – a fitting end to a highly successful and entertaining pre-season outing in the region.
