Dorsch: “We have a real opportunity”

Caligiuri and Niederlechner in doubt for Saturday's clash with Hertha BSC

FCA will welcome Hertha BSC to the WWK Arena on Saturday afternoon (15:30 CEST). Augsburg are going into the game off the back of a busy week, in which they had three fixtures to contend with. Niklas Dorsch sees the match against the Berliners as a real opportunity to pick up three valuable points.

Despite a 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich last weekend, the mood in the Augsburg camp remains positive. “It was great that we held our own and stayed compact against such a strong team and put in a good performance,” said midfielder Niklas Dorsch.

The team will be looking to build on their performance against the Bundesliga champions when they welcome Hertha BSC to the WWK Arena. “We are going into the game with lots of confidence but we still need to pick up points,” said head coach Markus Weinzierl ahead of the game. FCA are currently sat in 14th place, six points ahead of Hertha, who are languishing in 17th. “They know that they need to win because they haven’t had many good results recently. However, they have some good individual players who can pose a real threat,” warned the boss.

Dorsch: “I’m not at all worried about that side of things”

Two players who were in the starting eleven against Bayern are in doubt for the weekend. “Daniel Caligiuri and Florian Niederlechner are currently a cause for concern,” said Weinzierl. He continued: “We are in the process of clarifying whether they can be used on Saturday.” Apart from the players with long term injuries, everyone is available for selection at the weekend. Mads Pedersen is back after recovering from Covid-19 and Felix Uduokha, who has missed out recently due to a hamstring problem, could make the squad.

Niklas Dorsch is motivated and ready for the important game at the weekend. “I don’t sense any negative feelings in the team and we have a real chance on Saturday. In training, we have a good balance of having fun and taking it seriously and putting in the hard work when we need to. I’m not at all worried about that side of things.” Markus Weinzierl is also in good spirits ahead of the game and stated: “We can take a huge step towards safety at the weekend."
