Season in Numbers: Assists

2020/21 stats

First Team 31.05.2021, 17:00

In part three of our Season in Numbers series, we’re taking a look at the five FCA players with the most assists in 2020/21. No new names here, just a reshuffled order from the top five goalscorers.

No changes at all in first place, however, as the club’s leading goalscorer in 2020/21, André Hahn, also tops the assist charts with five goals set up. In the 2-1 win over Union Berlin, the 30-year-old provided the assist for both goals, both scored by Florian Niederlechner – his first two of the season. Combined with his eight goals, Hahn finished the season on 13 direct goal involvements – a club high.

Joint on five assists with André Hahn is Daniel Caligiuri. In the 2-0 win over Dortmund, the 33-year-old had a hand in both goals. His free-kick was headed home by Felix Uduokhai and he scored the second goal himself. In December 2020, Caligiuri had direct goal involvements in three consecutive games. After scoring in the 3-1 defeat to Hoffenheim, he went on to set up a goal against Schalke (2-2) and the winner against Arminia Bielefeld (1-0). With six goals also to his name, Caligiuri’s total season tally of goal involvements comes to eleven.

At third place in the FCA assists charts: Florian Niederlechner. His first of the season did not take long, as he set up Caligiuri for the second goal in Matchday 2’s 2-0 win against BVB. With five goals and four assists, Niederlechner can boast a total of nine scorer points.

Ruben Vargas also played a significant role in keeping FCA in the Bundesliga with nine goal involvements (six goals, three assists). The Switzerland international had a hand in both goals in Augsburg’s 2-1 win over Hoffenheim. Eight minutes was all Vargas needed for the opening goal against TSG. Later, the 22-year-old won back possession and played in Hahn, who made it 2-0.

Marco Richter completes our top five with three assists to add to his three goals, making him fifth in the overall goal involvement charts too. The 3-1 win at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach was a particular triumph for Richter, who scored to make it 2-1 and then set up Hahn for the third and final FCA goal of the night.
