Cédric Zesiger leaves FCA to return to Bern
18 months in Augsburg comes to an end
FC Augsburg have granted Cédric Zesiger’s request for a transfer: the 28-year-old centre-back is returning to his native Switzerland to join BSC Young Boys. The clubs have agreed not to disclose the details of the transfer.
The move marks a return to Bern for Zesiger, who previously played there between 2019 and 2023, winning three league titles and two cups during his time at the club. The Swiss defender initially joined FCA on loan from VfL Wolfsburg for the second half of the 2024/25 season before making the move permanent afterwards. Although his contract had originally been set to run up to 2029, Zesiger now departs FCA after making a total of 44 competitive appearances.
“Cédric approached us with a request to return to his native Switzerland due to personal reasons. In the interests of the player, we wanted to accommodate this request and, together with Young Boys, found a solution that works well for all parties involved. We would like to thank Cédric for his commitment over the past one-and-a-half years and wish him all the very best, both personally and professionally, back home,” says FCA sporting director Benni Weber.
Cédric Zesiger added: “This was not an easy decision for me because I always felt very comfortable at FCA. However, on a personal level, it is very important for me to be closer to home again. I’m grateful to FCA for making this move possible and wish the club, the team and all the fans a successful season.”
