Statement from Heiko Herrlich

“I wish FCA all the best for the final three matches of the season.”

First Team 26.04.2021, 17:39

Following the decision of FC Augsburg to part ways with head coach Heiko Herrlich, the 49-year-old asked for the opportunity to say a few words to FCA fans. The club has granted this request and Herrlich’s statement can be read here.

“It has not been an easy day for me today, but I have to accept the decision of FC Augsburg. Nevertheless, my mindset is a positive one and I leave the club with a clear conscience in a position outside the relegation zone. My time at FC Augsburg has been intensive and successful. I took over the reins in 2020 when the team were in a difficult situation and facing relegation, and together we managed to stay in the Bundesliga. Alongside this, I helped in the development of a number of players. First and foremost among these is Felix Uduokhai, who received his first senior call-up for Germany, as well as André Hahn, who has rediscovered his old form. Emotional highlights for the whole club included brilliant victories against Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Mönchengladbach, and Union Berlin. I remain convinced that FC Augsburg would have stayed up with me in charge. I have developed a close bond with the club, the wonderful fans, and the staff, and we will always be connected. I wish FCA all the best for the final three matches of the season and I’m sure that my team will be victorious in the battle against relegation.”
