Behrens and Dahmen called up to Germany national side
Home game in Augsburg
For the first time in FC Augsburg’s history, two FCA players have been called up to the senior Germany squad, with Hennes Behrens and Finn Dahmen both included. The pair have earned their place in Jürgen Klopp’s first squad as national team head coach after impressing for the Fuggerstädter.
Hennes Behrens, who signed for Augsburg from TSG Hoffenheim this summer and has played every minute of FCA’s three opening Bundesliga fixtures, has been named in the Germany squad for the first time. “We’re really happy that we have two FCA players that have been called up to the Germany national team in Hennes Behrens and Finn Dahmen. It’s a particularly special moment for Hennes, who has been called up for the first time. It’s good for him personally, but also for FC Augsburg’s approach to give young players an opportunity to prove themselves at a high level and to continue to develop”, said FCA’s sporting director Benni Weber. For Behrens himself, it’s a dream come true: “The fact we’ve had a good start to the season has definitely helped me a lot. I also want to thank my teammates, the coaches and all of the management at FCA for putting their trust in me and allowing me to prove myself.”
The call-up is nothing new for Finn Dahmen, who already featured in the Germany squad under Julian Nagelsmann, but is still waiting for his first senior appearance. “Finn being called up once again is also absolutely deserved. His strong performances consistently make a significant contribution to our team’s success. We’ve got our fingers crossed for both players. The fact that the first home game under Jürgen Klopp is taking place here at the WWK ARENA makes the whole thing even more special”, said Weber. Dahmen himself is excited to be back in the Germany fold: “I’m so pleased that I’ve been called up again. I was in regular contact with the national team’s goalkeeping coach, but I didn’t know if I had been picked or not. I’d been expecting a phone call, but the fact that it turned out to be good news was a nice surprise.”
Following Uli Biesinger, Helmut Haller, André Hahn, Felix Uduokhai, Mergim Berisha and Finn Dahmen, Behrens becomes the seventh FCA player to be called up to the Germany senior squad.
A special home game in Augsburg
The Germany national team will play four UEFA Nations League games in this year’s extended international break. This leaves Jürgen Klopp plenty of time to work with his newly assembled team. In total, Klopp has called up 44 players, who have been divided into two squads.
The first match will be the away game in Amsterdam against the Netherlands on 24th September (20:45 CEST). Three days later, a particularly special home game awaits Dahmen and Behrens, when Germany take on Greece in the WWK ARENA on 27th September (20:45 CEST). Germany will then face Serbia in Munich on 1st October (20:45 CEST), before the international break comes to an end with Germany’s return fixture against Greece in Thessaloniki on 4th October (20:45 CEST).
Finn Dahmen has been named in both squads across all four matches, whilst Hennes Behrens has been selected for the first two games in Amsterdam and Augsburg.
