Baum: “Heading to Stuttgart full of fight!”

First Team 27.11.2018, 18:49
FCA head coach Manuel Baum has analysed the defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt on the weekend and now hopes to tighten the right screws in training this week so that his team can get some points on the board in their next match. Augsburg are off to Stuttgart on Saturday, 1st December (15:30 CET). Augsburg’s last game wasn’t particularly pleasing for Manuel Baum, but he has already analysed the mistakes made together with his coaching staff: “We’ve only kept one clean sheet so far this season. We need to put a bit more focus on our defensive work, but that doesn’t just go for the defenders – it’s an area everyone has to improve in.” The upcoming away game at Stuttgart will be a reunion with a very familiar face after Markus Weinzierl was appointed as VfB’s head coach in October. Manuel Baum knows Weinzierl from his time as FCA head coach, with Baum working in the youth academy back then. “No one at the club has a bad thing to say about Markus, and I was able to learn a thing or two from him when it came to my youth coaching.” Nevertheless, Baum won’t be feeling sentimental when it comes to the game. “No matter who we’re up against, we want to head there full of fight and bring home the points.”

First start of many for Jensen?

21-year-old Fredrik Jensen made his starting debut for FCA against Frankfurt, and Baum was happy with what he saw: “It was important for him to get a chance to start and I think he did a good job. He gave us some positive impetus, although at times you could sense that he still needs to adjust to the speed of the game. Nevertheless, it was a solid performance overall.”
