Baum: “We want all three points on Saturday”

FCA host SC Freiburg

First Team 29.10.2026, 15:00

Following the successful DFB-Pokal outing away to SG Sonnenhof Großaspach, FC Augsburg are turning their attention back to the Bundesliga. SC Freiburg are the visitors to the WWK ARENA on Saturday, 31st October (15:30 CET).

Head coach Manuel Baum is expecting a tough test against one of the Bundesliga’s top sides. The 47-year-old believes Freiburg have “established themselves among the Bundesliga’s top six teams thanks to their high intensity and outstanding individual quality”. He also described Julian Schuster’s side as “difficult to defend against”, adding that they “always look to play their own game”.

Baum confident in squad depth

Despite the quality of the opposition, Baum is keen to focus on his own team’s performance. “We want to concentrate on our own style of play and give everything for the full 90 minutes,” stressed the FCA boss. He is also confident that his squad has the depth to make a difference late in games. “We can always bring players off the bench who can decide games for us in the closing stages.” That was evident in the recent cup victory in Großaspach, when substitutes Arijon Ibrahimović and Anton Kade both found the net to help Augsburg secure their place in the next round.

FCA can also take confidence from their impressive home record. Augsburg have gone seven months unbeaten at the WWK ARENA, losing just one of their last 16 Bundesliga home games. Baum has therefore set a clear target for Saturday’s meeting with Freiburg. “We want all three points on Saturday as well,” said the head coach, before adding: “It’s always worth coming to watch us at the stadium.”

Bah suspended – Brackelmann “on the mend”

In terms of team news, Augsburg remain without Noahkai Banks and Steve Mounié, while Juma Bah is suspended following his red card against Union Berlin. Calvin Brackelmann, who suffered a concussion in a collision during the Union game and had to be substituted, is “on the mend”, according to Baum, but will not be available for Saturday’s match.
