Baum: “We have to go into the game with the right mindset”

Augsburg face their first away game of the season on Sunday evening (17:30 CEST). After opening the 2026/27 Bundesliga campaign with a 3-0 home win over Schalke 04, Manuel Baum’s side now travel to Frankfurt on matchday 2. The FCA head coach wants to see his team stay compact and show the determination needed to come away with a result.
Eintracht Frankfurt represent another tough test for the Fuggerstädter so early in the season. “We’re coming up against a young, dynamic side with plenty of technically gifted players,” said Baum of this weekend’s opponents.
Adi Hütter’s side began their season with a 3-3 draw away to Union Berlin, offering an early indication of their attacking quality. “Frankfurt are very flexible in the final third, so it will be important for us to stay compact and defend as a unit.” Baum believes FCA’s own approach will be just as important: “We have to go into the game with the right mindset – we have to fight and show that absolute determination to win the game.”
Mounié, Breithaupt and Jakić missing
FCA remain without Steve Mounié and Tim Breithaupt, while the situation with Kristijan Jakić is unchanged from last week. There is also a question mark over Anton Kade’s availability after he was forced to cut Wednesday’s training session short.
Otherwise, Manuel Baum has plenty of options to choose from. “It’s a challenge every week deciding who plays when you have so many quality players and, above all, fit players. It doesn’t necessarily make the job any easier, but as a coach it’s certainly more of a blessing than a curse,” said Baum.
