Baum: “We want to pick up as many points as possible”
Stuttgart up next
FC Augsburg are entering the final stretch of the Bundesliga season – with eight matches still to play, they face another tough challenge on Sunday (19:30 CET) against VfB Stuttgart. Following Tuesday’s training session, head coach Manuel Baum spoke about…
…the remaining matches: “There are still eight games left, with 24 points up for grabs. That’s exactly the mindset we’re taking into them. We want to pick up as many points as possible. The first step is to secure our place in the league, but we also want to get everything we can out of every game. In the past, we’ve often seen a drop in performance as we get close to where we want to be.. That’s why this time we want to get everything we can out of these remaining games.”
…the upcoming opponents: “Stuttgart have shown in recent weeks that they are an incredibly strong team and extremely versatile in their build-up play. As soon as there’s an opportunity to attack, they push forward and deliver crosses into the box. They also have strong one-on-one players. It’ll be another really tough test for us.”
…the focus in training: “Our major focus is on defending. In Dortmund, we lacked intensity in duels in almost every position and we didn’t find a way to sort that out during the match. That cannot happen again.”
…the squad: “Yannik Keitel is still a doubt. Chrislain Matsima is on the mend, but won’t be available. Ismael Gharbi is out with a feverish infection. Uchenna Ogundu and Jeffrey Gouweleeuw are options again.”
