Baum: “We have to play well”
FCA host Hoffenheim
FC Augsburg are set to open Bundesliga matchday 29 on Friday evening (20:30 CEST) with a home game against TSG Hoffenheim. After a 1-1 draw in Hamburg, FCA go into the match in 11th place with 32 points.
Hoffenheim present a tough test for Manuel Baum’s side, as they have already beaten FCA 3-0 this season in Sinsheim. Hoffenheim head to Augsburg in fifth place and are chasing a Champions League spot. Despite losing both of their last two games, Baum still considers Hoffenheim to be one of the strongest teams in the league. “Hoffenheim are absolutely where they deserve to be,” said Baum. Christian Ilzer’s side impress “with runs in behind, quick short passing and high intensity.” That’s why, he added, you shouldn’t “be influenced too much by recent results.”
Augsburg’s focus is on their own performance. “Hoffenheim are still a top side, which is why we have to play well.” FCA could reach the 35-point mark with a win and take a step closer to securing Bundesliga survival. Baum made sure to praise his team’s mentality: “We’ve developed a culture in which the team is hungry for three points in every game.”
Schlotterbeck suspended
The personnel situation at FCA is looking good, as every first-team player took part in this week’s training. Yannik Keitel and Chrislain Matsima are not yet ready for selection, as they are both still regaining fitness after injury. Keven Schlotterbeck is suspended and will miss out, having picked up his fifth yellow card of the season. Jeffrey Gouweleeuw and Noahkai Banks are the two players being considered to replace him.
The WWK ARENA will once again be sold out on Friday evening. There’s also plenty happening off the pitch, as the game marks the start of Augsburg’s “Green Week 2026,” featuring activities focused on the regional environment and climate protection.
