Baum: “Three points are the priority”

Post-match reaction after the win over Heidenheim

First Team 15.02.2026, 18:45

FC Augsburg came away with three important points against 1. FC Heidenheim on Matchday 22. Here’s all the post-match reaction to the 1-0 home win.

Finn Dahmen: “I’m happy with the win because it was a very important game. Both teams were under pressure. It was important to pick up points again after the defeat in Mainz. It wasn’t the nicest game to watch and it wasn’t our best performance, but we threw everything into it – that was the key today.”

Keven Schlotterbeck: “It wasn’t exactly a treat in the first half. But it was about three points, and once you’ve got them, it doesn’t really matter anymore whether it was deserved or not. It was a clear penalty – it couldn’t be any clearer: he hauls me down, otherwise I’m unmarked and all I have to do is head it in. In a relegation battle, every inch matters. Heidenheim defend man-to-man, so you have to win your duels and be clever at set pieces. We’ve kept Heidenheim at arm’s length in the table, but the games against Wolfsburg and Köln won’t be any easier.”

Marius Wolf: “We knew it wouldn’t be an easy game. The three points were absolutely huge, and next week will be important again too. If we perform as a team, we have a chance against anyone.  We’re taking it one game at a time.”

Alexis Claude-Maurice: “For the penalty, at first I didn’t know which corner I was going to go for. I tried to stay focused and believe in my strengths. Then I decided on a corner at the very last moment, and it was the right decision. The most important thing is that we won, although our performance wasn’t good – we can do much better. The win gives us a bit of breathing space in the table. We’ll focus on the game in Wolfsburg and we want to take three points there as well.”

Manuel Baum (FC Augsburg head coach): “I’m absolutely delighted we managed to keep the three points here. I don’t care about how in this moment – the three points are the priority. It was an even first half, then before the penalty we had to do a lot of defending, and Heidenheim had plenty of shots. We had to get through that spell, and the penalty was a real release for us. We could even have scored more with the counter-attacks we had. Patience, concentration and focus were key today.”

Frank Schmidt (1. FC Heidenheim head coach): “In the end, it’s the win that counts, but unfortunately we weren’t the ones who got it. In the first half it was an even game, with strong defences on both sides and no real highlights, so 0-0 at the break was a fair scoreline. In the second half we grew into the game more and more, had control and could have gone in front as well. Augsburg had increasing problems getting out of their own half, and we had a lot of attempts in and around the box. The penalty against us was justified, and once we went behind it became very difficult. Overall it was a good, solid performance from my team with very good body language, which makes it extremely bitter in the end.”
