Baum: “We have a very difficult task on our hands”

FC Augsburg look forward to hosting Borussia Mönchengladbach in their first home fixture of the season on Saturday, 1st September (15:30 CEST). FCA hope to build on their opening day victory by securing three points on home soil. FCA were able to take all three points home with them from Düsseldorf last weekend, but Borussia were also able to come through their home tie with Bayer Leverkusen with a win. Augsburg head coach Manuel Baum has already examined the Foals and knows how difficult Saturday’s game will be. “I have watched Gladbach on multiple occasions. They have some sensational players in their team and are performing well. We have a very difficult task on our hands.” While the odds are stacked in Augsburg’s favour based on previous results, captain Daniel Baier is cautious. “We have our first home match of the season on Saturday and we want to start well. Any statistics in our favour from previous games against Gladbach don’t mean anything,” said the 34 year old ahead of the clash. The two teams have already faced off in pre-season, a game which FCA lost 2-1. “I think that the team will be well prepared to face us,” Baum added. Augsburg are invigorated going into this match and look forward to playing at home for the first time this season. “We look forward to our first home game with three points already secured. It would be amazing to play in front of a sold out crowd, there could possibly be a few tickets still available to cheer us on” said Manuel Baum, counting on the FCA fans. With the new season still young, the Augsburg players also want to improve the team’s home record after disappointment last season. “We know that we didn’t win as many home games last season as we would have liked to have done. We want to give something back to our fans but this isn’t always guaranteed.”
