In Lasse Günther, a true talent has joined FC Augsburg. A number of top clubs were also chasing the speedy attacker - no great surprise given the nature of the 18-year-old’s career. Here's a closer look at the latest signing.

Lasse Günther has been in the fast lane throughout his young career. At the age of 16, he was already playing for FC Bayern Munich's U19s in the U19 Bundesliga and the UEFA Youth League, the U19s equivalent of the Champions League. Shortly after his 18th birthday, Günther made his debut for the FC Bayern reserve team in the 3. Liga.

Even as a child, Günther had already travelled around the world. Born in Munich, he moved to Australia with his family at the age of four before moving to New York, each time due to his parents' work commitments. In the USA, Günther played for the youth team of New York City FC, before returning to Germany and playing for SpVgg Unterhaching. The attacker then had a short stint at FCA before joining FC Bayern in 2016.

Günther's strengths: "Speed, dynamism, finishing"

At the record champions, he attracted attention above all in the Youth League, scoring three goals in five games as a 16-year-old, against players two or three years older than him. The left-footed attacker also found the net five times in 16 outings in the U19 Bundesliga. "What stands out most about Lasse is his speed and dynamism," Bayern's head of youth development Jochen Sauer once said of Günther. "He also finishes really well and shoots powerfully and accurately with both feet."

Günther, who has been playing for Germany's youth teams since the U16 level, picked up his first professional experience last season, when he made five appearances for FC Bayern's U23 side during the run-in of the third division season. While Bayern's second team will be playing Regionalliga football next season, Günther will be playing in the top flight. "We trust him to make the immediate step into our first team," said managing director for sport, Stefan Reuter. In the new season, Günther will be able to focus fully on his football career - at the moment, he is currently studying for his A-levels.
