A versatile wing-back: Seol in focus

South Korea international

Quick, dynamic and capable of playing on either flank, Youngwoo Seol recently became the latest addition to the FCA squad after joining from FK Crvena zvezda. We take a closer look at the South Korea international.

Born in Ulsan, South Korea, Seol came through the ranks in his home country. He moved to Europe for the first time ahead of the 2024/25 season, leaving South Korean top-flight side Ulsan HD to join FK Crvena zvezda. The 27-year-old quickly established himself with the Serbian record champions, registering eight goals and 16 assists in 101 competitive appearances.

Seol offers plenty of versatility out wide and can play at wing-back on either side. That versatility is one of his biggest strengths. He also brings pace, dynamism and strong technical ability, allowing him to make an impact going forward while also contributing effectively without the ball. FCA sporting director Benni Weber highlighted those qualities after his arrival: “He’ll give us another dimension and increase the competition for places out wide.”

A starter at the World Cup

Seol has also gained valuable experience at international level. He started all three of South Korea’s group-stage matches at this summer’s World Cup and has now made 37 senior appearances for his country, providing four assists.

Seol is now looking to take the next step in his career at Augsburg. “The Bundesliga is a fantastic and extremely challenging league where I want to prove myself and continue developing,” he said.

Seol has already made his competitive debut for FCA, coming on in the home game against Schalke 04 at the weekend and making an immediate impact. Just moments after his introduction, he produced an assist for Rodrigo Ribeiro to make it 3-0 in the 92nd minute. The South Korea international will wear the number 7 shirt.
